This presentation introduced the cultural and historical significance of iwi kūpuna (native Hawaiian burials), explained the legal framework governing iwi, highlighted several historic judicial decisions on the topic, and discussed how iwi issues intersect with due diligence conducted for acquisition, financing, and development. The presentation included a short discussion of how several projects dealt successfully with iwi issues and how their approach may be used by others to avoid iwi-related project delay and increased costs.
